“Babylon System is the Vampire…We’ve been taken for granted much too long Rebel”
Bob Marley is known and loved by many; his music travels through time and has a different meaning to everyone that listens. Each song brings together different sounds to create its own unique sound. It is almost impossible for me to choose which one of his creations is my favorite. Choosing a favorite would be just as horrific as a mother revealing who their favorite child is, it’s just not right.
However I find myself always coming to this one song, Babylon System. I have done the unthinkable. Babylon System from the Songs of Freedom album, has a special space in my life, there are days where this is seriously the only thing I listen to. There is no way for me to get sick of it I’ve obviously tried.
When I listen to Bob Marley I often feel a general sense of ease, as if stress and worries take a break for awhile—he helps me escape. Babylon System accomplishes all of the above but also gives me a general sense of hope, he is trying to tell us the truth about life (Tell the children the truth). This song has powerful lyric as it takes on the point of view of those suffering, the less fortunate. His voice is calm but strong all at once. Bob Marley was a gift to this world and one gone too soon.
I learn from this song each time I play, a different message comes through. As I continue to learn how to play the guitar this will of course be the song I play the most, no surprise there.
